Mast raising system ... all you need is a hinge for the base of the mast and an attachment on the forward side of the mast for the gin pole. Add a small boat winch to the top of the gin pole with a shive on the end. Also put a roller on the stern mast support so you can easily roll the mast back and place the upper half of the mast hinge into the lower part and secure it with a large pin ( 3/4" X 6"bolt) . Place the gin pole on the post on the front of the mast and pin it in place. Now pull the cable out of the winch and attach it to the bow, then attach the jib halyard to the end of the gin pole. Now just crank up the mast and attach the forestay and the lower shrouds...tension them and you are ready to go...Takes about 15 or 20 minutes

ReplyDeletesorry I havent been to this sight in some time. Everything you see in this refit I did, including the mast step. It was made with some stainless steel plate 1/4" thick and the mast base was bolted to it and the bottom piece was bolted to the cabin top... any weld shop should be able to make one for you... if I get some time later I'll try and post a print on the mast step...
ReplyDeletejust spent about an hour typing in how to build the mast raising system and then when I went to post I lost it all....aaaarg...
